Use this as a preparation queue

Tick an item only after you have collected and reconciled the supporting records. A completed checklist does not mean a return is correct or that every deduction is available. The list is meant for individuals and sole proprietors; partnerships, corporations, foreign reporting and complex investment transactions need additional documents. Keep the documents in your own secure storage, not in this website. No financial files can be uploaded here.

A practical example

An illustrative freelancer receives $48,000 of customer payments but has only one information return for $30,000. The task is to reconcile all $48,000 with invoices, deposits, refunds and any duplicated payment reports, not to declare only the amount on the form. Separately, business expense receipts establish possible deductions. Checking the income box before comparing these records can conceal an omission.

Privacy and next steps

Only completion ticks are stored locally in your browser. Calculator numbers are not saved by these tools. Reset clears this checklist's saved progress. Shared devices can retain ticks until you reset them or clear browser storage. If storage is disabled, the checklist works for the current visit without persistence. Do not enter names, Social Security numbers or bank details. For recordkeeping requirements and exceptions, start with IRS recordkeeping for individuals and IRS business recordkeeping. Consult a tax professional if a record is missing or a business/personal allocation is uncertain.
